• Kid-friendly explanation of charity
  This story explains the importance of charity programs like Heffer INternational. Our library did a summer reading program with Heffer called "Read to Feed". Animals were donated through Heffer according to books read by children. I found it difficult to explain what receiving a goat would mean to a family to my 5 year old. This book makes poverty real without being too severe/frightening for young children. It leaves a sense of hope.

• Everyone can make a difference.
  Beatrice's Goat is a great way to introduce children to the golden rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated.
  Everyone with even a little gift can make a huge difference in the lives of many people. I highly recommend this book to parents and teachers!
