Clever idea marred by usability factors 
The concept is two-fold. One is old: provide writers with a book of inspiring quotes, snippets, pictures and suggestions in an attempt to spark them into gear when that dreaded writer's block strikes. The second concept is novel, make the 672 page book into a "block" of 3 x 3 inch pages. Cute idea, but it doesn't work well. Many of the pages with their tiny typeface are barely readable, a situation worsened by the choice of colored typefaces. I haven't measured, but it appears that some of the type may... more info

Great for teachers 
As a high school teacher, I have found this to be an invaluable tool to spark imagination in my students! While a few pages may be a little inappropriate for that level, most are wonderful. I have used it for several years and am planning to buy a copy for another teacher.

EXCELLENT!! 
Though I know it isn't the way we're supposed to use this book, I have gone through it cover to cover (I only just got it 2 days ago) and already have been thoroughly inspired by it! I have used up every sticky tag I have marking pages with writing projects that I want to try in the future/pose to friends just because the ideas fascinate me. I have to say that the book would be easier to use/keep open to read if it were a tiny bit bigger or the pages were made of thinner paper, but overall I believe it was... more info

A fantastic find! 
Unfortunately, "The Writer's Block" is the kind of book that's unlikely to appeal to anyone except professional (or wannabe) writers. Within that ridiculously narrow demographic, though, this is a great book to keep handy, unless you're one of those rare writers who never gets writer's block. (I won't say that it deserves to share shelf space with your copy of "The Elements of Style"; it's not quite THAT indispensable, no matter what the introduction may say.)
