He Makes It Work
I love Tim Gunn. I can not believe that it has taken me this long to pick up this book. What I like about Tim is that he doesn't tell you style to have but he does give guidelines for good taste. There's info on how to spot quality garments and how to take care of them. His list of Things Every Woman Must Have (which is not how he calls it but I don't have the book handy for reference) is great. If you've ever seen his TV show (Tim Gunn's Guide to Style) then you'll know the gist of this book.

Met Tim...
I was lucky enought to attend a party hosted by Tim Gunn and Nathaniel Hawkins at the Tribeca Grand on March 5th. My sister won this by responding to a TRESemme on-line ad. Hats off to these people who hosted a party that made "all" feel welcome. Here is to all those who made my and my sister's journey to New York and to SOHO and to PROJECT RUNWAY so special.... more info

The sections on self-presentation were moderately helpful but vague (sit up straight! good skin is good!), but when it came to actual fashion tips, there were none. Kendall Farr's The Pocket Stylist, while somewhat flawed, is far more informative.

Only for true fashionistas
I love Tim Gunn and think he is style personified. I purchased this book thinking that it would include his philosophy and advice for developing such style; however, for the most part the book is directed toward only true fashionistas. I don't know half of the people he refers to and the other half that I do recognize really have very little to do with my sense of style development. Mr. Gunn's book is witty and well written but simply not what I was hoping it would be. Again, if you are merely a casual... more info
