  • Dark romantic (in the classical sense) fantasy
When people talk about "romantic" these days, they tend to mean happy things like love. But that wasn't always so -- the romantic movement in art was originally not necessarily only about the happy forms of our emotional nature.
This book has a very high "ick-factor". The heroine is not just raped, but she is repeatedly raped and gang raped (and it is described quite explicitly). Furthermore, not just her body but her also her mind is being controlled and manipulated. It's certainly not for those... more info

  • Well-written dark fantasy
It was written well, with rich descriptions of the gardens- I especially liked the fact that there were touches of actual gardening knowledge, albeit for faerie plants.

A beautiful work of art with a... more info

  • brave
I think it was very brave of Lee and Miller to explore new genres of writing....
although I don't think the themes are that different from their other books as some seem to think....
there were several reviewer complaints about s/m content being new and different...
actually, both Pricilla and Aelliana (from the Liaden series) were emotionally and physically abused, including being raped... and if you are looking for really creepy evil, how about the department of the interior and what... more info
