  • They tend to "screw" into softer woods
These bits are OK for hard woods, but for anything softer (pine, fir, poplar, etc) they tend to screw into the wood rather than boring a hole. The "pilot point" appears to be the major drawback of these bits, IMHO, not the major benefit.

  • Perfect for the homeowner
I purchased this drill bit set for use around my house. I have a Makita cordless drill that this set works perfectly with. The bits appear to be very sturdy and reliable. The variety and size of bits is perfect for around the house ... 1/16 up to (a large) 3/8. The set includes two of the most popular sizes, 1/16 and 1/8 ... a well thought out and nice touch. Good set for working with soft metals with one caveat: upon penetration these bits pull the worked piece towards the drill quite agressively. Otherwise they are very effective, and the extra bits offer that assurance that you won't have to pause a project should you accidentally break one of those sizes.
The case is a bit bulky compared to other drill sets, but that's actually a good thing -- it's deep enough and there's enough extra space above the large bits to hold a 1/4" cordless screwdriver/drill... more info
