Excellent substitute for an outdoor grill; tough to clean.
This Breville grill is an excellent substitute for an outdoor grill. Its huge surface area is comparable to that of a small barbeque, and makes it possible to cook multiple portions simultanously. We have used this (as a closed grill) for steaks, hamburgers, panini, chicken, and fish steaks, and they all come out great; it seems that most things you could do in a frying pan turn out infinitely better on this grill. Nothing sticks. We have not yet tried using the grill opened flat, but I assume the really... more info

Oustanding indoor grill and panini press
It is an outstanding grill. It is quite large but well designed so it is a nice appliance on the countertop. It takes some time to heat up but once you know you plan accordingly. Definitely a must have in your kitchen if you enjoy panini, pancakes, grilled salmon etc...

Its BIG and gets the job done.
I've had the Breville 800GRXL indoor grill for a month now. We use it weekly and have not had any problems. It does take a while to heat up (I'd guess 5-8 minutes), but once it's ready, it cooks very well. Downside is that the plates are NOT removeable, but it cleans VERY easily. We just use paper towels and a cup of water to wipe it down while its still warm. The non-stick finish is holding up well so far. Like I said, its big and you'll need to place it near a vent hood when you're cooking a lot of meat.... more info

Breville 800GRXL: The Good, The Bad, . . .
Added Feb 24 08:
Finally I was contacted by a Breville rep that seemed interested in what I had to say and we covered this review point by point. BUT: at no time did he express any concern that he had a VERY dissatisfied customer on his hands. Two "Goods" that I should have mentioned are the "Briefcase Storage" and the finger hole in the plug (both most clever and useful ideas). And after a few days the "Boa Constrictor" cord relaxed noticeably, a good thing. Note: this review edited Feb 04/08more info
