The Story of Lenox

The Lenox tradition began in 1889, when young artist and potter Walter Scott Lenox founded a company dedicated to the daring proposition that an American firm could create the finest china, collectibles, and art pieces in the world. In the years since, Lenox has been honored as the first American chinaware exhibited at the National Museum of Ceramics, in Sèvres, France. In 1918 Lenox was the first American chinaware company to create the official state table service for the White House. Today every work of art created by Lenox Collections carries forward the tradition started by Walter Scott Lenox. Works of Lenox can be found in more than half of the governor's mansions in America and in U.S. embassies throughout the world.
